Well I decided I hated my current assault rifle design, mainly because it is stock heavy, instead of receiver, or forward heavy (which I greatly prefer), so I dug through a bunch of old AR designs in my art books, and came across one I liked. I’ve spent a few hours blocking it out in low poly, and I think it’s going to turn out well. I’m still struggling with finding good ways of adding detail that is easy on the eyes. So far it’s going pretty well.
Many apologies for the delay in posting folks. I recently upgraded to a new computer, and spent quite a while getting things all setup.
I started doing more work on the revolver and hand model recently, and I’m happy to say I have the new hand fully rigged and partially textured, and I have the revolver UV mapped with new normal map bakes. Check it out!
Quick update on the dim3 demo. With the help of Johan, I’ve almost completed all the high poly models for the 9 weapons in the dim3 demo. Most of them have low poly versions already, and some are UV mapped, and some are textured (roughly). Progress is being made slowly but steadily.
EDIT: Here’s a pic of the high poly weapons. The rocket launcher of kind of a homage.
Quick little progress update! Johan provided a sweet new hammer for the demo project, and I made a low poly, UV mapped, and baked a normal for it. See it below.
I also modeled one of the best hands I’ve modeled in a long time. Probably due to my intensified focus on drawing the human figure over the past few months. Pics of that later.
Hey everyone. I haven’t posted in a while, so I thought I’d take the time to introduce a “semi” new member of the dim3 demo makeover team: Johan, aka “Zombie Ninja” on the dim3 forum. He’s great at modeling all sorts of things, and is helping me a lot in getting the new d3D weapons finished. Here are two models of his being used for the d3D.
I’ve also included a link to his new blog in my Links section: http://notharam.wordpress.com/
After seeing the new map that Brian has for dim3, I’ve decided to go for a sci-fi vibe in the rest of the weapons I make for the new dim3 demo. I haven’t really done too much with the assault rifle, so that’s gonna look more sci-fi, and of course NOT be an M4. The revolver will have a sci-fi (ish) texture, as I don’t want to fool around with the model now that it’s done in that area.
I’m still drawing out concepts. I’m also starting to UV map the new revolver now that got the polycount down to a reasonable level.
Just finished up the revolver model. Still a few smoothing errors in the frame and other places, but it’s nothing I can’t fix in PS for the normal map. I had a lot of fun playing around with Blender 2.5′s new indirect and global lighting settings. Slight PP in Photoshop.
Next step is to make a low poly model, UV map it, and then attempt some normal map bakes.
