M4 Update 3 – Dim3 Demo

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

I decided to change directions with this gun, and use the standard handle bar mount on the receiver, and a smoothed barrel, no rail attachment system (RAS).

Also, as you probably know, this gun is designed for the new dim3 demo I am making, which is also the AI test project. Dim3 now has independent FOV for weapons, so here is a screenshot of the gun in-game, using 50 FOV, while the player view is 90 FOV. Much better result than I would have hoped for. Independent FOV fixed all my positioning problems. :D

Looking good. In this demo project, could you experiment with weapon bob in some fashion? Bit bland in Dim3 ATM, I think I can see a way it could be made more “Dynamic” but I don’t have the expertise. Brink: http://brinkthegame.com/media/videos/?id=21 has good looking weapon bob, but that would probably take as long to make as then guns themselves.

    Just a thought.

You have a point there. It certainly livens things up to have lots of movement from guns, and animations and things. If there is nothing happening on screen when you stop moving, that’s an issue. Breathing animations, bobbing, all that is very important not too mention the environment.

    I will look into this.

In game, is that Dim3′s diffuse shader or an AO map?

    • Alexander Smith says:

It’s an AO map combined with Blender-rendered shadows. Also specular and bump effects applied.
